Terrebonne Parish School Board Recognition: 

On May 27, 2008, the Terrebonne Parish School Board approved a motion to recognize the Pointe-au-Chien Indian Tribe.  The following tribal members attending the May 27, 2008, Terrebonne Parish School Board Meeting:  Council Representative Christine Conner, Council Representative Missy Billiot Viguerie, Arline Naquin, Wallace Verdin, Esther Billiot, Earline Verdin, Geneva LeBoeuf, Laurencia Billiot, Frances McGraw, Yvonne Ferguson, Theresa Dardar, Brenda Billiot, and Patty Ferguson. 

Tulane History Course:  Professor Laura Kelley of Tulane University taught a course on Louisiana Indian History in the Spring of 2008.  Her students took a field trip to the Community.  Joe Billiot, Jake Billiot, and Emary Billiot were their tour guides, and Ms. Arline Naquin and others prepared a meal for the students.  Throughout March and April, tribal leaders and tribal members presented different topics to the during the class seminar.  Participants included Chairman Charles Verdin, Representative Melissa Billiot, Representative Emary Billiot, Second Chairman Donald Dardar, Tribal Elder Arline Naquin, Representative Christine Connor, Esther Billiot, and Tribal Attorney Patty Ferguson.

Tribal-State Relations:Tribal Members and Tribal Leaders met with the Director of the Governor's Office of Indian Affairs in March 2008 to discuss current tribal issues. 

Census Forms: Tribal members are requested to complete their Census forms and return them to the Tribe so that the data can be compiled. 

Health Fair:  The First Annual Tribal Health Walk and Health Fair was held on May 10, 2008.  The walk began on the Lafourche side of the bayou and ended on the Terrebonne side of the bayou at Live Oak Baptist Church.  The Tribe faced hurdles in planning the fair because the health walk included two parish jurisdictions, which made it difficult to obtain the necessary permits.  About 25 tribal members participated.   

Graduation: Tribal Members graduating and minors turning 18 should inform the tribal membership committee. 

Book Project:  The Tribe recently submitted a grant application to obtain assistance in completing Phase II of the Tribe's Book Documentation Project.

The Tribal Social was held on March 29, 2008 at the home of Jake and Esther Billiot. With approximately 100 in attendance, it was a huge success.  The Social Commitee will host another social in the Fall.  The Social Committee has decided to allow the women to cook in the Spring and the men to cook in the Fall.
